Medication: A Modifiable Risk Factor for Falls – and the Role of Pharmacists in Falls Prevention- Identify medication classes and specific medications that increase the risk of falls among older adults and suggest alternative medications to reduce the occurrence of falls. List common side effects and adverse effects of medications, e.g., anticholinergic effects, that increase fall risk among older adults and describe what pharmacists can do to minimize these side effects/adverse effects in an effort to reduce falls risk. Describe why proper adherence to certain medications can decrease falls risk. Apply medication-related strategies from evidence-based research and falls preventions guidelines into practice in conjunction with other healthcare disciplines. LEGAL ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN PAIN MANAGEMENT- Discuss the legal responsibilities of the pharmacist and prescriber in the use of opioid analgesics, the features of opioid addiction and pseudoaddiction, risk factors and warning signs for opioid addiction, misuse, or diversion, urine drug screening, pain in the long-term care setting, new regulatory issues that are important in opioid management of pain, assessing pain in patients with cognitive impairment or other barriers to communication, emergency department visits in patients using chronic opioid therapy. 1.0 Free Contact Hours

Preventing Stroke in Atrial Fibrillation: Overview of New and Emerging Antithrombotic Agents and Roles for Pharmacists- List two sources of evidence-based guidelines related to preventing stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. Identify at least two current challenges related to antithrombotic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation. List the major findings of at least three clinical trials involving the use of new and emerging antithrombotic agents to prevent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. List at least two potential roles for pharmacists related to ensuring the safe and effective use of new and emerging antithrombotic agents for preventing stroke in patients with AF at both the patient-care and institutional levels.
